2021 Formation Training Clinic
From Thursday, August 12th to Saturday, August 14th, 2021, Waterloo Warbirds and the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association will be hosting a formation training clinic at the Region of Waterloo International Airport. The clinic will train and recertify 20+ pilots from across Canada on the Formation and Safety Team (FAST) standard, a common program used by pilots worldwide that standardizes formation practices between organizations.
“There are so many pilots in the area who are talented at flying formation, and it’s really rewarding to get them all together,” said Derek Hammond, President of Waterloo Warbirds, after last year’s clinic. “The instructor pilots are all very knowledgeable and help us all either improve or refresh our skills, and develop a strong foundation to build on.”
The clinic will be attended by a number of Harvard aircraft, vintage jets from Waterloo Warbirds, and several other historic jets. Weather permitting, flights will be taking place between 11 AM and 7 PM daily over the course of the 3-day clinic. They may fly over the Region of Waterloo, the north end of Guelph, and communities between Stratford and Woodstock.
All participants will be practicing health and safety protocols for the duration of the clinic, following measures recommended by the local Public Health unit and Health Canada. To help ensure regular airport operations remain smooth and to maintain the health and safety of airport staff, visitors, and clinic participants, we ask that any spectators watch from their homes, follow local directives on social distancing, and refrain from coming to the airport.
More detailed information and regular updates on each day’s activities will be shared on our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. Videos and photos captured during the clinic can also be tagged with @waterloowarbirds on all 3 platforms.
